Michael A. Marino, MS, PT

 
Mike Marino is a native Staten Islander. After graduating from Msgr. Farrell High School in 1968, he attended Brown University where he majored in Psychology and was a four-year starter and All-Ivy football player. Upon graduation from Brown, Mike began a teaching and coaching career lasting five years, earning a Masters Degree in Special Education from Kean University in 1975 and coaching football at Msgr. Farrell High School from 1973-1978. During this time, he also developed an interest in physical therapy, doing volunteer work at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island which later became Bayley Seton Hospital. In 1978, Mike left teaching and coaching to pursue a career in physical therapy. He returned to school for the required prerequisites, and was accepted to the Columbia University Physical Therapy Program in 1980. After graduating from Columbia with honors, Mike accepted a job as a staff therapist at St. Vincent's Medical Center on Staten Island. There, he met his wife Cheryl, a graduate of the Physical Therapy Program at Downstate Medical Center. In 1983, Mike and Cheryl left St. Vincent's Hospital to start a physical therapy private practice, one of the first here on Staten Island. The combination of their backgrounds, Mike in sports and Cheryl as a professional dancer, has provided their patients with a unique and effective approach to their rehabilitation. Mike is currently pursuing his advanced Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy

Michael Lattanzio, MS, PT

 
Michael Lattanzio is a native Staten Islander who graduated Msgr. Farrell High School in 1998 and received his Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from the College of Staten Island in January 2005. He has been a member of the staff at Rehabilitation PT Associates since 1999 and has been a therapist here since 2005. Michael has taken continuing education courses in manual techniques, exercise and taping of the spine and extremities. His short term goals include obtaining his Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Brandi Hale, DPT

 
Brandi Hale, a Baltimore, Maryland native, grew up enjoying an active lifestyle of playing competitive soccer, swimming and lacrosse. Her love of being physically active led her to pursue a career in physical therapy. Brandi obtained her Bachelor of Science from Towson University graduating cum laude. After taking a year hiatus to travel she moved to New York City and went on to complete her post graduate work receiving a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Touro College in 2011. She was honored with an Academic Excellence award, as well as a Research Achievement Award in recognition of exemplary performance during the research component of the program. Brandi combines her clinical knowledge along with athletic experience to most effectively treat her patients. She believes in a personal and hands on approach with her patients ranging from high school athletes to the geriatric population. Brandi continues to pursue education opportunities with continuing education courses focusing on manual techniques from the Institute of Physical Art and the McKenzie Institute. Her future educational goals include becoming board certified in orthopedics in addition to taking on a manual certification program. She and her husband Mike, are the proud parents of their new young son, Chase
 
 
 
Matthew Cutroneo, DPT

Matthew Cutroneo, DPT

 


Matthew Cutroneo has been a member of the staff of Rehabilitation Physical Therapy Associates of Staten Island since 1995. He brings over 20 years of experience to the practice, including vast knowledge of orthopedics and home care. Matthew pursued and achieved his long term goal of obtaining his Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from A.T Still University in 2014. Prior to that, Matthew received his Masters' Degree in Physical Therapy class that the CSI offered. Matthew also has extensive knowledge about meeting the needs of home bound patients. He has extremely strong ties to the Staten Island community, where he was born and raised. In addition to the multiple orthopedic continuing education courses he has taken over the years, he was the recipient of the Espirit Award in 2007 in home care which is an esteemed award that is given to the most notable therapist as voted by his peers. Matthew resides in Matawan, New Jersey with his wife and five children.

Maria Karen Samper-Torcivia PTA

 

“Karen” is a 1998 graduate of Our Lady of Fatima College in the Philippines with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy. She started working in our office as a gym aide in August of 2003
with the goal of eventually becoming licensed in New York. Her diligence and hard work earned
her a New York State Physical Therapist Assistant license in April of 2004.

Since that time, Karen has been an integral part of our staff. Her excellent manual skills, as well
as her clinical insights have earned her the praise of many of her patients. She keeps current with her skills, taking continuing education courses on a regular basis.

Karen was born in the Philippines and speaks fluent English and Filipino. She was raised by her grandparents whose influence have helped make her the compassionate, caring, and respectful professional that she has become.

Karen is happily married and she and her husband are the proud parents of two baby girls
 
 
Shannyn Johnston, PTA

Shannyn Johnston, PTA

 
In 2006, Shannyn received her Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences (with a concentration in Physical Therapy) and minored in Psychology from the University of Hartford where she ran Division 1 Cross Country and Track and Field. Over the next four years she worked in hospitals, private practices, and nursing homes in Connecticut, San Diego, and New York as a physical therapy aide and exercise specialist. She also traveled the world while continuing to realize her dream of pursuing a career in Physical Therapy.
In 2011, Shannyn became a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant after graduating from CUNY Kingsborough and then became part of the Rehabilitation Physical Therapy Associates of Staten Island team. She assists and treats a diverse patient population including, pre and post-surgical upper and lower extremity diagnoses, and back injuries. Shannyn is passionate about helping patients of all ages maximize their highest potential to return to their activities of daily life and performance. Outside of work Shannyn leads an active lifestyle of running, biking, and yoga to stay fit. She is a Staten Island native and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband. Shannyn currenly lives in New Jersey with her husband and two young children.
 
 
 
Lauraine Abinanti, PTA

Lauraine Abinanti, PTA

 
Lauraine has been a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since 1984, the inaugural year of the
PTA certification.

Lauraine was raised on Staten Island and is a graduate of Saint John Villa Academy, where she
was president of the Future Nurses Club. While attending NYCC College she worked at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home where she was introduced to the field of Physical Therapy. During that time, working in the Physical Therapy Department, she met Mike and Cheryl Marino. Since that time, her passion for helping people and interest in health care has been a consistent theme in her life.

With over thirty years of clinical experience, Lauraine has been exposed to many aspects of
physical therapy. She is proficient in the care of spinal disabilities, orthopedic injuries,
geriatric disorders, and has kept current in continuing education courses. Lauraine's professional skills and experience are invaluable assets to her patients.

Lauraine and her husband Vinnie are the proud parents of their daughter Lisette, an accomplished equestrian who has followed in her mother's footsteps to become a
certified equine massage therapist.

Lauraine is a welcome additional to our staff.
 
 
 
Meryl Bilecky, PTA

Josephine Cruz(Jean)

 
Josephine Cruz (Jean) was born in the Philippines where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. Her motivation to choose that career path was a result of seeing how physical therapy helped different family members, suffering chronic arthritis and stroke. Coming to the United States, Jean had the opportunity to work in different facilities where she gained the valuable experience that led her to us.

Jean joined our staff in 2007, where her experience with different age groups and various diagnoses have made her a valuable asset to our staff. Her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to helping others is evident by the positive feedback she receives from her patients. She is knowledgeable in various exercise modalities and protocols, and gets a great deal of satisfaction in helping her patients overcome their disabilities and return to their previous level of function and beyond.

Jean is a Staten Island resident, and her family is excited about the upcoming arrival of their third baby boy, due in January of 2016.
